English Language Proficiency Test (ELPT)
Section 1111(b)7 of Title 1 of the Elementary and Secondary Act (ESEA) “requires, without exception, that LEP students be assessed annually with an assessment that measures listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.” (MS Guidelines for English Language Learners, January 2011, page 36) This requirement includes students who require special education services under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).
Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners is a secure large-scale English language proficiency assessment given to Kindergarten through 12th graders who have been identified as English Learners (ELs). It is given annually in WIDA Consortium member states to monitor students' progress in acquiring academic English. Guidelines for English Language Learners
