Job Placement Service Recruitment

The Mississippi Teacher Center (MSTC) was established in 1994 to recruit and retain quality teachers for MS classrooms. The goals of the Center are to recruit new and former teachers into the teaching profession, retain quality teachers through its enhancement programs, promote the importance of the teaching profession, and collaborate with school districts, colleges, universities, businesses, and communities to ensure a quality education for all children.

Prospective Teachers and Administrators

The Mississippi Teacher Center operates a job placement service that maintains a database of prospective teachers/administrators and district job vacancies. The goal of the placement service is to provide Mississippi school districts with a pool of certified prospective teachers.

Every  month school districts submit a list of their teacher vacancies to the Mississippi Teacher Center. This vacancy list is posted with the districts' contact information for interested teacher candidates.

Mississippi Administrator of the Year (AOY)
The Mississippi Administrator of the Year (AOY) program recognizes outstanding achievement and performance by Mississippi school administrators and brings effective administrative practices to the attention of others. Those eligible for the award include elementary and secondary school principals and vocational-technical directors. The AOY is asked to share expertise through various presentations and activities for the improvement of education in the state.


Wayne County High School Principal Billy Ray Jones, Jr. has been named the 2010 Mississippi Administrator of the Year. Mr. Jones has served as principal of Wayne County High School since 2007

Mississippi Teacher of the Year
The Mississippi Teacher of the Year Program (MTOY) recognizes outstanding performance by our public school teachers.  Each local school district may honor its teachers and nominate one for the state title. The MTOY must be a certified classroom teacher (with a standard K-12 license) in a state accredited public school that plans to teach the next year.  The teacher should have a superior ability to inspire students, possess leadership capabilities, and be an active member of the community. The Milken Educator Awards Program
Milken Educator Awards Program provides public recognition and financial rewards to elementary and secondary schoolteachers and principals and other education professionals who are furthering excellence in education. The Foundation presents the financial awards to new honorees during a gala celebration held at the annual Milken Family Foundation National Education Conference.

Milken Foundation made a surprise visit to Lovett Elementary School in the Clinton Public School District on December 1. Milken Foundation Vice-President Dr. Jane Foley presented Michelle Brister with a 2011 Milken Educator Award during a ceremony attended by students and school staff. Ms. Brister, who is a sixth grade math teacher, will receive a monetary award of $25,000. She is the only Mississippi teacher to receive this honor in 2011.
