CDR Michael S. Curry (Retired) is originally from Florida.  He was commissioned in the U.S. Navy through the NROTC unit at Jacksonville University in 1976.  Following completion of Surface Warfare Officer School, he was assigned to the operations department in USS Berkeley (DDG 15), San Diego, California.  He was selected to convert to Supply Corps officer in 1978. 

After completion of Navy Supply Corps School, in 1979, he was assigned as supply department head in USS Davidson (FF 1045), Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.  He remained in Hawaii until 1985, completing assignments at Inactive Ships Detachment, and as a plank owner on the staff of the Commander, U. S. Naval Forces Central Command.

He reported to Joint Deployment Agency (JDA), Tampa, Florida in 1985.  JDA became U. S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) in 1987.  

He departed USTRANSCOM in 1988, and reported to NAS New Orleans, Louisiana.  He served the remainder of his Navy career in New Orleans, Louisiana; at Naval Reserve Readiness Command Region 10, and on the staff of the Commander, Naval Reserve Force.  He retired from active duty in 1996.

After teaching at Belle Chasse High School, Belle Chasse, Louisiana, for two years; CDR Curry became the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Pearl High School NJROTC Unit, Pearl, MS, in July 1998.  He left Pearl High School in December 2008, and reported to the Mississippi Department of Education staff in January 2009, in the newly established position of JROTC Director.

CDR Curry has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business from Jacksonville University; a Master of Science Degree in Systems Management from the University of Southern California; and a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Leadership from TUI University.  He is also a Naval War College graduate.  He holds a Mississippi educator license for JROTC, secondary math, business, economics, and school administrator.

CDR Curry’s decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (one gold star); Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (one gold star); and Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.

CDR Curry and his wife Lauren live in Pearl, Mississippi.
