Educator Licensure

Highly Qualified Teacher

The federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires that all Mississippi teachers be highly qualified and fully certified for all core subjects areas in which they teach. Teachers that are teaching core subjects in which they do not hold full certification must be reported by the hiring school district to Mississippi Department of Education in the Local Education Agency (LEA) highly qualified plan. LEA must also notify parents that their children are being taught by a teacher that is not certified.
