State Board of Education Member Resigns Post

JACKSON, Miss. – Simon Weir, who represents the State Supreme Court District 3 on the Mississippi Board of Education, has resigned from his position, effective immediately.

In his resignation letter, Weir stated that professional commitments have required more of his time, and he was unable to continue to serve on the Board.

In 2012, Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Weir to the State Board of Education, which oversees policy for the Mississippi Department of Education and appoints the state superintendent of education.

Weir, a native of Hernando, Miss., serves as CEO and President of Community Bank, North Mississippi. Weir has worked in the banking industry for more than 20 years.

“I have enjoyed working with Mr. Weir during his time on the Board and I wish him well in his future endeavors,” said Dr. Wayne Gann, chairman of the Board.
