ARRA Stimulus Funding
Welcome to the Mississippi Department of Education’s Web page dedicated to information on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also commonly referred to as the ARRA or the stimulus package. ARRA – a federal bill that was signed into law on February 17, 2009 – provides new, one-time funding through three main streams: the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund, Title I Programs and Programs under the Individuals with Disabilities Act of 1965.
The information on this site is designed to help education officials, school leaders, and others who may have questions about ARRA, and how leaders plan to utilize those funds in Mississippi. This site will be updated as the Mississippi Department of Education receives more information.
Liquidation Period Extensions 12/21/11
Districts in need of an ARRA program liquidation period extension should make the request through the ARRA program office that administers the grant for further guidance on the process.
ARRA Reporting Deadline 12/12/11
The ARRA reporting system is open for the submission of Quarter 4 reports. The ARRA data that is being entered for Quarter 4 should reflect expenditures for the period October 2011 through December 2011. We are asking that all districts have their reports certified by Wednesday, December 21st so the MDE can meet the federal deadline for reporting. We encourage you to share this information with the Business Manager, Federal Programs Coordinator, Special Education Coordinator, and other program staff in your district to ensure the ARRA reports are submitted timely. If you have questions about a specific ARRA program report, please feel free to contact the MDE program office that administers the grant. Thanks for your support as we continue to strive to be of service to you and your district.
Available Grant Balances and Upcoming Grant End Dates
The federal FY ‘10 grants will soon end, and the last date to obligate the funds for many of the grants was September 30th. The U.S. Department of Education has reminded us of the importance of ensuring that districts expend the federal funds awarded. We have noted that some districts still have a significant amount of federal funds available to expend. Our federal program offices have been asked to work closely with the district coordinators and business managers to provide technical assistance in this area. Available grant balances by program can be accessed by logging into the School Payment System.
Due to the Christmas holidays, the deadline for drawing funds in December is Thursday, December 8th. Please contact
James Hart, Director of Accounting, at (601) 359-3525 if you have questions or need assistance. We encourage you to share this information with the Business Manager, Federal Programs Coordinator, Special Education Coordinator, and other program staff in your district to ensure that federal funds are not relinquished. If you have questions about a specific grant, please feel free to contact the MDE program office that administers the grant. Thanks for your support as we continue to strive to be of service to you and your district.
