Our Mission

Language Arts and Mathematics Resources

To assist teachers and administrators in preparing for fully implementing these curriculum frameworks and the corresponding assessments in 2007-08, the Office of Academic Education bureaus have worked together to provide the following documents that will help educators to understand the expectations of the curriculum and assessments.

Overview

Language Arts Curriculum Framework Materials

  • Language Arts Curriculum Framework

  • Language Arts Teaching Strategies

  • Language Arts Vertical Alignment Documents
These documents present the curriculum frameworks in a tabular format to illustrate how curriculum objectives progress across grade levels.

    • Kindergarten - Eighth Grade

    • Seventh - Twelfth Grade

Mathematics Curriculum Framework Materials

Performance Level Descriptor
The Performance Level Descriptors provide information about the expected level of student performance on the standards expressed in the curriculum frameworks. The focus of the Performance Level Descriptors is the Proficient level of performance, but the distinctions between the Minimal, Basic, Proficient, and Advanced levels of performance are also illustrated. These Performance Level Descriptors are grade, course, and subject specific and address language arts and mathematics students in kindergarten through grade 12 and science students in grade 5, grade 8, and Biology I.

Test Item Specifications
The Item Specifications serve as a guide to test item writers relative to both item content and format. At least one sample item is provided for every curriculum objective that will be assessed on the MCT2, Algebra I, and English II Multiple-Choice tests.

Test Blueprint
The test blueprint indicates the number of test questions related to each competency on the test and indicates the relative emphasis placed on each competency. All objectives in a competency will potentially appear on a test, but because of the length of the test, not every objective may be assessed on every test form. The test blueprints are currently being reviewed and in draft form, but no significant changes are anticipated. Please note the MCT2 will be composed of two tests, one test for mathematics and one test for language arts (including reading and writing).
