The mission of the Office of Academic Education is to develop educationally responsive schools by providing a rigorous curriculum and instructional services for students, teachers, and school leaders to accelerate student learning and to close achievement gaps.
Office of Curriculum & Instruction
The primary purpose of the Office of Curriculum is to assist district personnel in improving classroom instruction through the development, revision, and training of Mississippi Curriculum Frameworks. Through training development, the content area specialists in the Office of Curriculum assist district personnel in implementing state standards, as well as, "best practices" for improving student achievement. |
Office of Reading/Early Childhood
The Office of Reading, Early Childhood & Language Arts is committed to improving the readiness and reading achievement of Mississippi's children by generating and disseminating theoretical and practical solutions to persistent problems in the learning and teaching of reading. Through the implementation of the Mississippi Reading Reform Model (MRRM), this office provides professional development activities and technical assistance to impact the instructional strategies that will ultimately lead to...Every Child a Reader.

Office of Special Education
The mission of the Office of Special Education (OSE) is to support local schools and districts in their efforts to provide effective educational programs for students with disabilities as provided for in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act and state law. The vision of the OSE is to be a service-oriented organization that provides strong leadership and support to increase access and achievement for children with disabilities.

Office of Student Assessment
The mission of the Office of Student Assessment is to provide high quality assessments and meaningful instructional information for increasing student achievement and closing achievement gaps. The Mississippi Statewide Assessment System promotes instructional improvement in classrooms throughout the state and provides valid, reliable data for accountability purposes in compliance with MS Code 37-16-1, SB 2156, SB 2488, and the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001. The objectives of this program include the following: assistance in the identification of educational needs at the state, district, and school levels; assessing how well districts and schools are meeting state goals and academic growth standards; providing information to aid in the development of policy issues and concerns; providing a basis for comparison of school, district, and state performance; and producing data which can be used to aid in the identification of exceptional educational programs or processes. |
