2010 MAGC Conference

Hattiesburg teachers will present at national conference

Georgia Field and Janie Green, Gifted Education Teachers with the Hattiesburg Public School District, have been selected to present at the 56th Annual National Association of Gifted Children’s Conference in St. Louis, Missouri.  This accomplishment is significant as there were over 950 proposals submitted and only 250 chosen.  Mrs. Field and Mrs. Green will be presenting “From Wonderland to the Classroom:  Teaching Elementary Students Computer Programming Using Alice.”  Alice is an innovative 3-D computer program by Carnegie Mellon University that allows students to design and create their very own original animated stories very similar to what they have seen on TV and in the movies.  Mrs. Green and Mrs. Field, being aware that technology is a key component in the future success of their students, have embarked on incorporating technology into teaching higher-order thinking skills which is preparing their students to be today’s learners and tomorrow’s leaders.
