Higher Expectations, Higher Achievement
College and Career-Ready Standards
Our children deserve the best public education system the state can offer, which is why the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) has been increasing the rigor in instruction and testing. Mississippi students aren’t just competing with their classmates and other students around the state for the jobs of tomorrow. In this global economy, our students must compete with students from across the country and the world.
If we are to prepare students successfully for college and the workforce, we need to set higher expectations to yield higher achievement.
All Mississippi students deserve to graduate high school with knowledge and skills they need to succeed in college, careers and life.
Higher standards that challenge and motivate our students are essential.
To address this need, education leaders across Mississippi improved our academic content standards. In 2015, the MDE we received and incorporated feedback from Mississippi educators, parents, as well as business and community members regarding Mississippi’s standards. On January 21, 2016, the Mississippi State Board of Education voted unanimously to adopt the revised standards
The Mississippi College and Career Ready Standards reflect our foundational expectations of what ALL students should know and be able to do in each grade from kindergarten through 12th grade.
We are committed to providing teachers with the professional learning needed for successful ongoing implementation. Local school districts continue to determine the textbooks and instructional materials that help their students learn best.
Our schools are also committed to engaging parent and families to prepare students for success. Visit the Parent Resources section of this site to access valuable resources to support learning at home.
