MISSISSIPPI BOARD MEMBER ROSETTA RICHARD CHOSEN AS DIRECTOR OF NATIONAL ASSOCIATION

Arlington, Va. - Rosetta Richard, a longtime member of the Mississippi State Board of Education, was elected to the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) Board of Directors. Richard will begin her one-year term as a director from NASBE’s Southern region in January 2010.

“Rosetta Richard has provided a guiding hand for public education in Mississippi for many years, and she has taken that experience at home and translated it into service as an influential and honored board member of NASBE. We look forward to her return to the board of directors,” said NASBE Executive Director Brenda Welburn. “She and the rest of our board provide their fellow policymakers from across the country the support and diversity of opinion so critical to finding solutions to the educational needs of American students in the 21st century.”

Richard, a resident of Biloxi, MS, was first appointed to the state board of education in 1993 and reappointed in 2002. During her tenure she has been active in NASBE serving as Board delegate for several years. Her service to NASBE has included membership on the Public Policy Committee and the Governmental Affairs Committee. In 2005 she received the Distinguished Service Award. She is retired from the Mississippi Power Company, where she served as an Employee Relations Representative from March 1990 until April 2006.
