Mississippi Board of Education meets in Jackson
The Mississippi Board of Education met recently in Jackson and approved the following:
Approved:
Submitting a request to the Governor to lift the State of Emergency declared pursuant to Section 37-17-6 in the Jefferson Davis County School District . Pursuant to Section 37-17-6 of the Mississippi Code of 1972, as amended, when the Board determines that the deficiencies giving rise to a declaration of a state of emergency in a district have been addressed and corrected, the Board must notify the Governor and ask the Governor to declare that a state of emergency no longer exists in that district.
A report on action of the Commission on School Accreditation concerning the assignment of district and school accreditation designations: On November 12, 2009, the Commission on School Accreditation approved the assignment of district accreditation statuses (based on compliance with process standards) and district and school performance classifications following established procedures outlined in the current edition of Mississippi Public School Accountability Standards and in accordance with Accreditation Policy 2.1 and 3.1.
To begin the Administrative Procedures Act process: To revise State Board Policy 902-GED Option Guidelines. The Mississippi code of 1972 Annotated authorized school districts in Mississippi to provide a program of GED preparatory instruction as a part of the Alternative Education Program.
To adopt a State Board Policy defining “inordinately large” as that term is used in Section 37-151-103(3) to determine average daily attendance as a result of epidemic, natural disaster or any concerted activity discouraging school attendance under the Mississippi Adequate Education Program. This policy has cleared the Administrative Procedures Act process with no public comment.
The Carnegie unit credit for Management, Year 1 (Vocational) and Marketing & Economics, Year 1 (Vocational) to meet the Economics (Academic) and Personal Finance (Academic) requirements for high school graduation. It has cleared the Administrative Procedures Act process with no public comment.
